Alaska rewards people who plan

Moving to Alaska is not like moving between Lower 48 cities. Homes are built for real winters, neighborhoods change dramatically from one area to the next, and the right choice depends on your commute, your hobbies and how much space you want.

I start every relocation with a conversation about how you want to live. Then I narrow the map, preview homes in person, and walk you through the best ones on live video so you can buy with confidence, even from thousands of miles away.

What newcomers wish they had known

A few details make a big difference in your first year.

01

Winter ready homes. Heated garages, arctic entries, good insulation and reliable heat matter more than finishes. I prioritize them on every tour.

02

Cost of living. Some costs, like groceries and shipping, run higher than in the Lower 48. No state income tax helps offset that for many families.

03

The Permanent Fund Dividend. Alaska residents may qualify for the annual PFD after meeting residency requirements, which generally include a full calendar year of residency. Check the official PFD rules for details.

04

Daylight and seasons. Long summer days and short winter days take adjustment. Good lighting, windows and a plan for winter activities help.

FAQ

Relocation questions, answered

Can I buy a home in Alaska before I move?

Yes. With live video tours, digital paperwork and remote closing options, many buyers purchase before they arrive. I preview homes in person so you are not relying on photos alone.

What is the best area to live near Anchorage?

It depends on your commute and lifestyle. Anchorage offers the most convenience, Eagle River and Chugiak offer mountains and space close to town, Girdwood is a ski town, and Wasilla and Palmer offer the most house for your budget.

Does Alaska have a state income tax?

No. Alaska has no state income tax and no statewide sales tax, although some local governments have their own taxes.

How cold does Anchorage get?

Anchorage winters are milder than many people expect thanks to the coastal location, but you should plan for snow, ice and short days from November through March.

When should I start my home search?

As soon as you know your timeline. Reach out early and we will build a plan around your move date.
